Day 42 Update #32

The yo-yo continues with this update…

We’re back to feeling sassy again after a couple of encouraging visits with Julie this weekend.

First, she was wearing an outfit Sarah bought for her with long sleeves that help keep the fingers away from the tubes.

Second, Julie was out of the plastic “baby box” and in a normal crib! This was very exciting news.

Third, Julie was handling the CPAP machine much better both Saturday night and Sunday night. Her oxygen levels were very good tonight even when being moved to a scale to be weighed. She didn’t seem to be fighting the machine nearly as much either.

Fourth, she has grown a full inch from birth. She is now 19 inches long and 5 lbs 15 oz. Although her weight was down a little, that’s still within the weight of a diaper and it was the first time to be weighed on a separate scale.

We spent five hours with Julie Saturday night leaving well after midnight. Tonight we made a quick trip at 10 pm just to see Julie in clothes for the first time. We got back home about 1 am.

She was wide awake when we came in this evening with big bright eyes and full of energy. She had just finished being “beaten” by the RT who taps her back and chest to loosen any junk in her lungs. She was clear this evening. The RT told us that she was quite vocal during this session.

We’ve heard Julie cry more this weekend than all the previous weeks put together. Although they haven’t all been happy cries, it’s still music to our ears.

Pictures tomorrow for the six week update.

Julie had almost made it back to her birth weight – this time without all the extra fluid. 100% prime baby.

Our schedule gets crazier and crazier every day, but we keep it together as best as we can.
