Wake Up and Go to Sleep #3

After scrambling to find the money to close on the house, find a notary to sign the paperwork, and get the envelope to a FedEx office in time, we drove to one of the local hospitals to get a steroid shot for Sarah (the doctor’s offices don’t carry these shots). Sarah had appointments on everyday of the week – including two earlier on Wednesday – except Thursday. We planned to be at the hospital for about an hour and then grab something to eat and then rest for one whole day…

we went to the hospital on Weds evening to get Sarah some steroid shots, but they discovered that she was having contractions. So, she was admitted and spent the next 36 hours in the hospital. We got the contractions stopped and Sarah is home now on bed rest. The CCAM and the fluid in the abdomen are the same. We have 5 doctors appts next week. Will be taking pregnancy one day at a time.

It took the hospital 5 hours to diagnose the contractions, secure the doctor’s order to stay in the hospital, and get a room cleaned for Sarah. Too late for the hospital cafeteria, so I ran out for fast food. Sarah and I ate dinner about 11 pm that night. Then, I drove home to pick up some things for Sarah and I while we spent the night at the hospital. I finally lay down on a very uncomfortable foldout couch about 2 am. Sarah lay in the bed connected to her 2nd or 3rd IV bottle of the night and various monitors.

Promptly at 2:30 am the nurses burst into the room to do their duties. Sarah got up after Julie started jumping up and down on her expanding bladder (that IV juice has to go somewhere). Naturally, the monitors stayed in place while Julie moved to a new position. So the nurses came in to readjust the monitors. Julie played hide and seek for about 20 minutes until she got tired. The nurses left. Sarah and I slept for an hour.

4 am – repeat. 6 am – repeat. 8 am – the doctor comes in to check on Sarah and it’s all hands on deck! Basically, Sarah didn’t get more than three or four hours of sleep all night. She did a little better Thursday afternoon, but Thursday night was a repeat of Wednesday.

We finally convinced the doctors and nurses to let Sarah go Friday morning so she could – wait for it – get to another doctor’s appointment. Yes! We waited for four hours for the hospital paperwork just to talk to more doctors and nurses.  Aagh!

Thursday had been the only day of the week we had no appointments scheduled and we spent it in the hospital. By the time we got back home Friday afternoon, we were exhausted.
